Meanwhile, in a vaguely related note, your guv issues a challenge: Gov. Jerry Brown may have a few decades under his belt, but at least he can fit in his belt. Brown responded to Chris Christie’s “old retread” rant at the Republican National Convention by challenging the rotund governor of New Jersey to a fitness contest. In an address to the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 770 in Los Angeles Friday, Brown defended his age and poked at Christie’s less-than-fit physique. “There’s nothing wrong with being a little retread,” he said. “I don’t have as much hair, and I’m slowed down a little bit, but I’ve got to tell you, I ran three miles in 29 minutes two nights ago.” Christie dug into Brown Monday, saying that he couldn’t believe Californians chose “an old retread” over Meg Whitman. “I don’t want to be insulting,” he said. “Jerry Brown? He won the New Jersey presidential primary over Jimmy Carter when I was 14 years old.” Brown took the dig in stride, saying an attack by Republicans is a sign that he was worth his weight. But was he going to pass up an opportunity to fire back at Christie? Fat chance. “I hereby challenge Gov. Bit shaky in the voice. In a strange aside to an aside, when I first tried to paste that in here, this is what came out: I wish I could work Chris Christie in there somewhere I was going to put that in my little Netanyahu/Adlelson rant, but when I googled them, they didn't look as big as I thought they were, the two of them together might add up to Christie.
