What does "success in life" really mean?

Means you aimed at something. You've got a good portion of that thing that you aimed at.

It is only this something that differs from people to people.

I saw two person who considered themselves successful because they published their books. An America lady who published her medical book. Met her in the plane to NY. She said after that she considered herself fulfilled.
Another was a guy who published his poetry book here.

My own goals (if I can get to the essence of them) have been always being able to choose:

Choose doing what I wanted to do. And not be forced by the circumstances to do something just to earn a living.

Achieved before I was 30.

Next work alongside other people in other country to see how good am I compared to them.

Considered achieved that at 36.

I was able to choose where I lived.

Was able to choose which education to give Experiment.

I considered myself successful in my own life because I could exercise those choices.
