I have said over and over again that it is Ronald Reagan who started divisiveness in our politics. He planted the virus in this society. And recall how he did not tolerate any dissent within the Republican party. Recall how he chided one of his own party member for asking him a question he didn't like and asked who invited him to the meeting. He's also the one who started talking up states' rights whenever he was stumping in the South. That became a code word for no integration, and repeal of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and became part of the Rs Southern Strategy. He's also the one that closed down countless mental institutions, releasing the inmates into the streets. That's when we began to have a sizable homeless population. He was the one who introduced trickle down and supply side..............economic theories that now are in the process of getting debunked if not debunked completely. He was the one who made secret deals with S. Hussein and it was how Iraq got so many of their chemical weapons that they used on in the Kurds in N. Iraq. He also supplied Iraq with war related equipment that helped the Iraqis fight the Iranians. It was that war and the US's role in that war that served to end any hope of decent relations between Iran and the US. Sadam used those same war related materials on the Kuwaitis as well. After reading about his presidency during the aught years of this millennium, I will never understand why he is venerated as a president........esp since his last years in office were lived in an Alzheimer's haze. So many of the seeds to our current problems were planted by this jerk.
