Father of course comes in soon after that. But without mother's intelligence, the foetus and infant won't get good DNA, or good nutrition, so even with the best fatherly DNA in the world, the building blocks of brain function will not be available for the DNA to use. As TJ pointed out, there is a vast range of influences. Some trivial. The father is of course one of the more important variables. But top of the pops is mother. Money rates way down the list somewhere because it is so irrelevant. With a good mother and father, supplying only nutritious substances, with lots of love and attention and action in infancy, all of which costs nearly zero, DNA can do its stuff. Money is just an excuse, based on envy, one of the seven cardinal sins. In case it's not clear, this is probabilistic. Of course there could be an example of a mother with little intelligence, being mainly a womb and of course the infant could be intelligent. That would not falsify the fact that mother's intelligence is the dominant variable in the intelligence on children. One of the mistakes people make it to think that because the mother and father are intelligent, they will therefore have as smart or even smarter infant. They are often disappointed to find they get less than they bargained for. The poor little blighter then has the added burden to deal with of irrationally exuberant expectations, which are a curse on children. Mqurice
