The problem with Democracy is that politicians have only ONE incentive. To get re-elected. Politicians aren't looking long term. They're looking to their next election. If you're a congressman that has a defense plant in your district that you KNOW is just totally worthless and a waste of money but provides a thousand jobs and 20,000 votes are you going to publicly come out to get rid of that defense plant? I notice that Mr. Paul Ryan (guy that HATES stimulus) actually wrote some letters REQUESTING stimulus funds for some local companies. THAT'S why you need COMPROMISE. Politicians need to cover each other to parse the blame for unpopular but necessary actions.
