That's a PERFECT description of what's wrong...

Moving past the obvious "wow" factor that you can see reflected in the market action... ??

The rest I see in that article is focused on the "wow" being... that they were actually able to make W8... work.

"the very first working Windows Phone 8 device."

LOL!!!

When you're focused on an argument that PRESUMES it as a given that "the ecosystem" is going to be being that difficult... so that it is basically accepted as dysfunctional as an entering argument... and dysfunctional enough that you've convinced yourself that it is a cause to celebrate the accomplishment of first to enable "basic function"... as a success ? It reveals that the errors entrained here are ones that most engineers in business should easily recognize... where the focus on the problems imposed on the engineering elements from the top down... distracts from a proper focus on what "the market" cares about...

So, they had in hand a potential competition killer in the new phone cam chip...

And, they threw that away... to focus on "making the MSFT product look like it works"...

I've dismissed the camera as a "gadget" that would probably have limited appeal... in and of itself...

But, the same pattern in how they threw away an opportunity... is probably being repeated in every other aspect and element in the competition for features that are better than competitors features...
