Listen ...

<< I can't believe he said Nokia Music is available right now and there is nothing in the marketplace. >>

He didn't say that. Great job by former Microsoft evangalist Kevin Shields despite a flaky phone to PC to screen connection. Even Ballmer behaved himself.

Nokia's NYC Webcasted WP8 Lumia Launch Event ...

FUBHO,

<< I can't believe he said Nokia Music is available right now and there is nothing in the marketplace. WTF is their problem. You don't crap on users like that.... He [Kevin] sure did. In fact, he said, "Go check right now." I know exactly what was said. >>

"Exactly" what Kevin Shields said at 10:57 EDT last Wednesday was ...

"Nokia Music is coming to the United States. It should be downloadable in Windows Phone Marketplace any moment. Try it right now."

... so "any moment" was a Microsoft Moment, and we had several of those Microsoft Moments that somewhat marred the videocasted event but which all and all was pretty darned well produced for Nokia by Microsoft Production Studios Networks utilizing Silverlight which needed to be properly enabled in viewers browsers. Hats off to Microsoft for providing an advisory of this and a test for viewers tuning in early

I don't want to nitpick (too much <ggg> and belabor this, and if I owned a WP7.5 device as you do I'd almost undoubtedly have been trying to pull down Nokia Music from the Microsoft Store on Wednesday and/or even the day before when it was originally announced ahead of the launch event and been frustrated that Microsoft did not yet have it available for download to Lumia users from their US servers yet.

If I were Kevin Shield's, and still worked for Microsoft, when the launch event concluded I'd almost immediately be taking my server side mates to task for not having the software provisioned when I had it expected it which worst case in an ideal world should have been by the time the launch event concluded or almost immediately afterwards, not significantly later in the day. Since Kevin now works as pitchman for Jo Harlow, not Softie's Terry Myerson¹ who I'd bet was taking the sever siders to task himself, he would perhap's take a lighter approach. I'd also be willing to bet that Joe Belfiore who does report to Terry would be asking Terry to climb the server siders frame -- then take 'em out for a beer after Nokia Music was properly provisioned.

¹ "Terry Myerson is [now] Corporate Vice President of the Windows Phone Division, overseeing the strategy, development, marketing and sales of Microsoft software and services for Windows Phones worldwide."

Anywhoo ... glad you are enjoying Nokia Music on your Lumia.

One thing I was glad to see was that in the replay of the event which was available on the Nokia site about 30 minutes after the events conclusion (another Microsoft Moment, since not 'immediately' as the screen had promised <g>) that the missing 3 or 4 minutes of audio at the beginning of the videocasted event when Stephen walked onto the stage and began talking was properly restored.

I just posted a YouTube video of the full original event (with restored audio) here ...

Amber Bouman, Tim Moynihan, and Jason Cross of PCWorld have their live blog 'transcript' of the event here ...

.. and it serves as a pretty good 'time stamped' double check of what was said or viewed at the event.

Best,
