<but I am not convinced the basis of what thought is or what consciousness is has changed in relation to that.>

That may be... I guess it depends on defining "consciousness" and "thought". The "basis of what thought is" in any given individual definitely changes during a lifetime for example. To that point, the greater context of where that individuals consciousness base or thought base is coming from may not matter unless he/she is aware of the difference.... a lifetime quest as described by "spiritual mystics" (or whatever! lol) as you know.

As to weather the "collective consciousness" of the universe is changing or evolving.... again, if the universe is a hologram then one would want to say yes. It seems that the evolving universal consciousness would be a (the?) driver for the same on an individual level? My reasoning here is again is to look at the holographic view and the way our own bodies work:

As humans develop, individual cells differentiate or "evolve" into specialized cells of the varying systems. YET, it IS THIS EVOLUTION that also "feeds back" to the greater organism allowing further evolutionary steps.. including thought or conciousness. So development itself allows for the greater tool set allowing the next step.

Using this idea it would be human development (the cells of the universe) that helps/allows the universe (the human in the previous example) to evolve yet the human evolves within the context of the universe.

Or something like that!??? LOL
