As far as I know -- and I'm not an expert -- you can't simply exchange your options. What I want to do by "rolling" though is basically at some point change the options I trade from December to February. I think Trufflette and Gary have been talking about the Feb options as being good buys recently. I think people do this in order to transition into an option with a later expiration. The time value of an option seems to decelerate at an exponential pace on out of the money options. What I want to do is sell soon (hopefully before a short term dip) and buy back in with Feb instead of Dec calls.

We'll see what happens tomorrow. I think some sort of announcement would flood out all concerns on that (rather subjective) Barron's article.
