greg, the sub $1000 wasn't designed for me...
Read the thread man..I've said many times it wan't for me.
but, you aren't thinking out of the box..
the rest of the world is first buyers..
europe, latin amer., fareast...
Cpq knows this...you don't.

greg, I work with the people who engr this stuff....
the present pc's still have this 66 and 75 mhz cacheing...
I'll wait til I get the ones without that bottleneck,
but it will not make a dif in the business place...
none right now..not a one...
90% of the apps have instant response times on p166 and p200.
name one business app..not engr'ing but business that we can't have instant response time on with a lower level pentium...??????
can you name even one.???????????????????

Info systems is so far behind on the present roadmap of apps
that it will a decade before other things are needed.
right now the need is more bandwidth for internet and networks...
not clinet power.
things are way out of balance bandwidth vs. client MHZ

The most intensive ERP process right now happens to be the ap vouchering transaction. It has to update allot ot files and compare what are large databases.
But, with a relational database ERP and you distribute the code to the pc client..it's instant on p166.

The factory floor has quality tranactions and do millions a month
but breaking the database into a historical and recent database
has these instant with even a low level pentium.

The pc between a genread and teradyne that sned a bunch of data at once needs all the power it can get with an upgraded serial port.
So, we'll put a p266 on that station.

Buyer workstations are instant on p166

All the normal transaction in an ERP that the office does are instant on p166-p200.

Electronic ECN and RMA's don't need alllot a power.

Groupware certainly don't,
The internet/intranet/extranet don't

Engr'ing and software engr'ing and a few super users who just love to crunch huge excels do need p266 and above....

So what are these apps that have to have all this power you are talking about....?????????????
Name some but they need to be business not engr'ing...
I buy engrs the most I can get.
