I use Microsoft's compiler and the basic MFC classes and that's it. The volume and quality of information and human resources available for that is superb. It's also clear that they want C++ die on the vine since I have to go third-party for even the most basic components -- Stingray for example. Borland never had the supporting infrastructure and their abject failure in that area can be directly attributed to incompetent product managers with arrogant attitudes -- hey, did you ever work for Borland, heh? AFA Microsoft tanking, what could start that in motion is the fact that they recieve fully one-half of their revenues from Office; the other side of the coin is that Windows still ships on over 80% of every box made and NT is shipping more units than UNIX -- a large percentage of that is actually for desktops, however. Next year is going to be the beginning of the end of Microsoft's dominance but it's going to take at least six months for the eSuite phenomenon to prove itself. The $1500 DevPack should really spark the development community into outfitting these $49 suites with killer beans.
