Former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin says Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry “diminished himself” by taking a “pot shot” at her in his speech Thursday night at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. “I think he diminished himself by even mentioning my name. How does he know my name?” the former Alaska governor said Thursday on Fox Business Network. “I mean, aren’t these guys supposed to be these big-wig elites who don’t waste their time on the little people like me?” Kerry said in his speech: “Folks, Sarah Palin said she could see Russia from Alaska. Mitt Romney talks like he’s only seen Russia by watching ‘Rocky IV.’” During the 2008 campaign, comedian Tina Fey mocked Palin on “Saturday Night Live” for telling then-CBS reporter Katie Couric that “you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska” — a line widely distorted into “I can see Russia from my house.” What Palin actually said is true. On Thursday, she was asked about that quote. “Yeah, I did say that in Alaska you can see Russia from our land base. I was making the point that we are strategically located on the globe,” Palin said on Fox. “And when it comes to transportation, corridors and resources, and the resources that are shared and fought over, Alaska — and I as governor — had known what I was doing in dealing with international issues that had to do with our resources that could help secure our nation.
