Ben,

Do not believe any and I mean ANY of the Barrons article. Other than
the fact that Sony is looking to release a new product next year.
That is the only factual information in the article. The rest is
Codswallop !! per my fellow poster FIDO.

Barrons has become the best contrary indicator in the financial press,
and this is certainly not the first time nor the last that this type
of article will be printed. When you read something in Barrons, do
the opposite, and you will be financially rewarded.

The reality is, even if Sony gets this product to market, it will be
competing against an installed base of approximately 18 million ZIP
drives in mid 1998. If Iomega then does deem this new product as a
threat, they will release their own 200 meg ZIP drive backwards
compatible with the huge installed base of ZIP 100 disks. What will
then be the advantage of this new Sony drive ? Certainly not
compatibility. Unless they really want to still claim that their
drive is compatible with 1.44 meg floppies. Get real. Does Barrons
really believe that Iomega will not develop any future products and
is unaware of competition. Perhaps they should interview Syquest
and Imation. Iomega has repeatedly stated that they have a 200 meg
Zip running in the lab , but see no reason or market to release it.
Guess Barrons just overlooked that.

Regards,

Dave
