“Grant us the courage to defend it, life, without which no other rights are secure,” Dolan said in the prayer. “We ask your benediction on those waiting to be born, that they may be welcomed and protected.”

I was asked to add a Bible quote to a chain last week. I came up with a quote from the end of the Apostle Paul’s Epistle to the Corinthians (2nd letter):

I will not be a burden to you, because what I want is not your possessions but you. After all, children should not have to save up for their parents, but parents for their children. 15
Somehow it seems oddly political in a current events context. In this part of the letter it appears that Paul would condemn democrats for their intentional efforts to burden our children and further descendents.

The letter continues:

Did I exploit you through any of the men I sent to you? 18 I urged Titus to go to you and I sent our brother with him. Titus did not exploit you, did he? Did we not walk in the same footsteps by the same Spirit?
Paul asks if his agent has worked to pay his own way just as Paul has always done. For any who do not understand the context, when Paul travelled he travelled to preach and rather than as a guest he insisted on doing such manual work as there was to mitigate the burden of his presence at the dinner table.

Finally I will comment: As much as one person might think Paul would condemn another, they would be wrong. Paul was not judgemental. Paul lived to serve the Lord and to bring the good news to many others. Paul welcomed all to worship with him. He was very forgiving.
