I saw a glimpse of it when Ari Fleisher told reporters they should "Watch what they say." in the ultra-patriotic run-up to the Iraq war. "You're with us or you're with the terrorists." Using the word "fascist" to characterize this kind of dumbness is the proverbial business of bringing a cannon to kill a flea. Fascism as a macro social label should be used with care. If everything becomes fascism, then nothing is fascism. The clearest recent example of this is the tendency to label any criticism of the Israelis as anti-semitism.
