Obama widens lead over Romney despite jobs data: Reuters/Ipsos poll

....excerpt

Obama had leapfrogged Romney in the daily tracking poll on Friday with a lead of 46 percent to 44 percent.

The president's lead comes despite a mixed reaction to his convention speech on Thursday night in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Friday's government data showing that jobs growth slowed sharply last month.

Obama's lead over Romney is comparable to Romney's former lead over the president after the Republican National Convention finished last week, Clark said.

"We don't have another convention now to turn our attention to, so (Obama's bounce) may maintain," Clark said. "How big it'll be and how long it will last remains to be seen."

We always need to have that discussion. We cannot be like the right wingers and stick our head in the sand. The one thing we have with Obama is that he has to play in the left wings arena and so we can apply pressure on him.

Anyone who followed the last 4 years can see where the left wing (following the congressional black caucus's lead) forced Obama left after the debt raising debacle, and then he started gaining in the polls.

For now though we just need Obama to hold us steady until 2016. A stop gap president will suffice. We need him to appoint the supreme court justices and possibly use his veto pen to thwart any crazy legislation the right wing may pass (like a war with Russia, or Iran, or getting rid of social security and medicare) . Depending on whether the Republican's control the house and senate. Which seems likely.

We have been a lucky nation for 200 years always getting the right president just when we needed them. Our first few presidents were giants that stabilized the nation at its birth, Lincoln, TR, FDR, JFK and now Obama.
