I have been having regular conversations with my DIL (who voted for BO, but is very disappointed and won't vote for him again) over the last few days about the upcoming election, and she keeps making comparisons between BO and Bill Clinton. She recognizes that for the most part, after he lost congress during the mid-term election in '94, Clinton was willing to work in a bi-partisan manner. That as a result, the economy did well, people were prosperous and the country was moving in the right direction.

Together we are exploring the direction Obama, and by extension his dem colleges in congress have taken despite the election of '10. I've tried to convey to her the frustration conservatives and republicans have felt as a result of his unwillingness to compromise. I let her know that compromise is the way forward and that despite republicans pleas for meetings with the president so they could sit down and hash out their differences, they've been ignored. We have discussed the issues of "entitlements" and "executive orders", and I let her know that this kind of behavior on the part of Obama is not presidential. I told her the decision to deny 1/2 of the citizens of the U.S. a voice in shaping our future is not sitting well with people, and she whole heartedly agrees with my assessment.

I told her that by refusing to work with republicans, Obama, Pelosi and Reid have made a grave mistake and continuing to do so will result in even more division and partisanship in the future. I told her the only way for this country to get back on an even keel is to throw these divisive politicians out of office and try something different.

Thankfully, she sees through the negative advertising and recognizes a lie (by both sides) when she sees one. She's a 30 something voter and is interested in WDC finding solutions for our nation's problems. She says she's pretty disgusted by what she's seen these last 3 yrs and will vote accordingly.
