Charlie says we MUST win 15 of last 21 games to have any chance to leapfrog over Cardinals/Dodgers/Pirates and Brewers(who are even with us) to get 2nd Wild Card--and means Cardinals now above snine above slip to 8 above---are winning 15 of 21 would give us about a 25% hance, imo. Charlie advises the best chance we win 21 of 21--that he be sure we are in---which is then a one game playoff with Braves:)
i have wanted this 2nd Wild Card team for a long time because TOO many teams in AL or NL have been shocked by the wild card team, which at times be the hottest team in baseball.
It was UNFAIR to get best record in league and have some HOT team eliminate you. Cards/Phils classic case, last year--and i think it has happened quite a few times,
Whatever it ensures playoff team will, in terms of pitching staffs be more rested and prepared.
Kendrick has been amazing, i think his ERA in last 9 games has been 2.26 and he broke his alltime most strike outs in one game last night, with 8 strike outs. He , i think, 7-2 since allstar break, and 9-10 overall.
Was nice to see Brown launch one last night.
Dan "The Babe" Ruf likely will start tonight--Charlie says he wants to see this guy, who hit more HRs of any player in the Minor Leagues this year, with 39. He has come from out NOWHERE, was just a pitcher that switch to hitter, i desperate chance to keep his hope alive.(i think he hit at least .325)--at Reading. Later, Max:)

O.K. Jerry here are the official stats since Phils were last at .500. They were 28-28 in June(about then Halladay goes on DL) then over the next 32 games are record was 9-23 and on July13th(the day after allstar break) we hit out NADIR of 14 games below .500 with record of 37-51. Today we now are 71-71 and have been 34-20 since July 14th, in spite unloading Pence/Victorino and Blanton and losing Ruiz until 2 days ago.
During that time Kendricks record went from 2-8 to 9-10, and during that time his ERA has been 2.26 and has established, if he has his mechanics in line and pitch mix right, at the age of now 28 and 6 years Major Leagues experience may have mastered his trade---this would a great boost for Phils for next year(Lifetime record now 52-40.
Charlie Manuel took a major gamble on the tremendous potential Phillipe Aumont and left him in with 2 on one out in 8th and looking shaky and nervous--he then had to spectacular Ks on Ruggiano and Reyes. Announcers said this could be a turning point in this young kid's career(he's only 23, we got him in trade of Lee to Seattle).
i am glad to see Phils turn this disaster of a season into "well well you never know".
i now feel if Phils just got Michael Bourn over the winter, we will ready to battle Braves and Nats for division title.
But Braves may break the bank to keep Bourn, they know if Bourn goes back to Philly, the Phils gain a lot and Braves lose a lot. For Bourn, i think a lot depends on how far Braves go into the playoffs.
CF is a key, a fact is, if Victorino wants it, we have a choice between Bourn and Victorino(By spring Bourn will be 31 and Victorino 32--Victorino would come cheaper--i would NOT be unhappy to see Victorino return to Phils--one of Minor Leaguers pitchers they got for him has pitched exceptionally since the Phils got him, so also a pitcher they got in Thome deal).
i think Manuel will hesitate to throw Darrin Ruf into the fire now.
In terms base and those top prospects, they can be so much BS--Ruf was not listed in the Phils top 30 prospects by the minor league. And what the Phils teams did this year in minor Leagues is really making the experts look like fools---they were calling Phils the worst minor league organization--they are being proven wrong wrong wrong.
