Their mission was to get us to attack them on their home grounds and solidify Islam against us. They are accomplishing precisely that

That's what I concluded back in 2001. The 9/11 was the last of a series of attacks - a provocation, designed to make us attack Muslims on their soil. Clinton (almost) ignored several attacks, but 9/11 was an offer we couldn't refuse - that time, we had to fight back. I believe that they were at first overwhelmed by our response - both militarily, and by the intelligence war, including cutting off their funding. Al Qaida is no longer the central player, it seem - but this organization is only one of the heads of the Hydra.

It almost seems that the entire organization called al Qaida has committed a suicide mission. And they were successful - their side at this time is ahead in the game. The plan, it seems, was to radicalize Muslims, to replace Muslim governments with Islamists, and then consolidate. They are on their way to accomplish that. They are wining a big round of a larger fight.

Edit - unfortunately, our leaders do not seem to have a good understanding of the big picture. That leads to blind strategies and silly tactics.

Arab World Celebrates 9/11 by Blaming Attacks on Israel and Jews, New York Times Blames Bush

Posted by Jammie on Sep 11, 2012 at 9:26 am

All the nutcases come out whenever the 9/11 anniversary comes around. This stuff really used to irritate us, but it’s so predictable and boring now.

Expect nothing less.

In the weeks leading up to the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Muslim clerics and academics across the Arab world publicly trafficked in anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, blaming Israel and American Jews for the attacks that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 Americans and destroyed New York City’s Twin Towers and a wing of the Pentagon.

Majed Al-Mitri, a Yemini researcher and academic, took to an Arabic television station last week to declare that 9/11 was orchestrated “by the U.S. and by the Jews in a clandestine manner” as a way to target “Islam and the Muslims,” according to a translation of his remarks by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), which has been tracking conspiracy theories relating to 9/11 in the lead up to today’s anniversary.

“The US is conducting the greatest distortion campaign in its history,” Yaha Al-Kateb, another Yemini academic, stated in a Sept. 5 television interview in which he referred to the attack as “the alleged 9/11 operation by the so-called Al-Qaeda,” according to MEMRI.

Citing “documents published in some books,” Al-Kateb goes on to speculated that 9/11 is “entirely untrue” and that “the U.S. and Israel had prior knowledge of it.”

Meanwhile, Michael Moore must be swelling with pride today.

Could the 9/11 attack have been stopped, had the Bush team reacted with urgency to the warnings contained in all of those daily briefs? We can’t ever know. And that may be the most agonizing reality of all.

Bill Clinton, of course, gets a lifetime pass for failing to take out bin Laden when he had the chance.

The following text is a fatwa, or declaration of war, by Osama bin Laden first published in Al Quds Al Arabi, a London-based newspaper, in August, 1996. The fatwa is entitled "Declaration of War against the Americans Occupying the Land of the Two Holy Places."

Al Qaeda's Fatwa

The following text is the second fatwa originally published on February 23, 1998, to declare a holy war, or jihad, against the West and Israel. It is signed by Osama bin Laden, head of al Qaeda; Ayman al-Zawahiri, head of Jihad Group in Egypt, and several other Islamic terrorist groups.

True, for example: Every time a child or ordinary citizen is assaulted in our airports because of political correctness, while men who look just like the 9-11 killers run by to board the plane, we surrender to the enemy.

Yes, I have experienced this personally....

LindyBill, I have to acknowledge the fact that you get it. The simplistic allegation that Bin Ladin and his allies attacked us because they "hate our way of life" simply obscures the fact that our fundamentalist enemies are ruthless, complex thinkers steeped in intrigue and that they had goals and plans that motivated their strike on 9/11. And, as ruthless and brutal as they are, they're not cowards.

That's why its so important to outthink them, refrain from knee jerk reactions, use world opinion to our advantage, assemble teams of experts and rely upon their opinions, sometimes act quietly and without fanfare when we hit back, publicize our peaceful nature and make sure that when we do strike back in a public way that we strike back efficiently and proportionately.

In the end the best way to end terrorism is not to attack the countries where it finds its support but rather to reduce popular support for terrorism in those countries where it breeds. And, of course, if we adopt a "do no harm" foreign policy and let other countries deal with their problems in instances where there is no international coalition to intervene, the incentive to strike America will wane.
