Hence the saying "The best things in life are free". At least for some of us. I'd rather go on the Coastal Hike than live in that sterile environment in Singapore but I guess it's all about what you are used to.

I've never seen anything like that car parking option.

I'll admit I watched this in amusement. If super cars weren't as common as fire hydrants in Singapore these days, I'd consider taking some time to check out this crazy elevator next time I'm in Singapore. I find it an increasingly curious place each time I go back. It looks pretty fragile from my eyes. I'll admit that I cannot compare Singapore to Japan.

The amount of tax people pay over there for the privilege to drive a car is astounding so giving up one's limited living space for a "car park". Food for thought...see table on 2nd page

lta.gov.sg
2011 - $48K SGD - $64K SGD per Certificate of Entitlement(average depending on make, engine size, yr, etc.)

2011 - ~48K cars registered
$2.3B SGD - $3.1B SGD in vehicle registrations is ~ 1% of the debt if my quick look online is correct at ~2.3T.

That's a lot of disposable income on top of the cost to buy the car for a place with pretty good public transport taxi/train/buses.
