milton friedman said in an article i read long ago. just as you can't beat a political candidate without another political candidate, you can't beat an economic theory without another economic theory. it's not that either theory is right, but both are held by each side as self evident. (i do not have quotes around my text, because i do not have the exact quote in front of me.)

you cannot beat wind/solar or electric cars without an appropriate alternative. ng is a more than suitable candidate to compete. romney needs to win the political debate, and ng trucks and cars stand up great against electric/wind/solar in a political debate (especially since we have plenty of it and cheap to boot plus we already have a flourishing lng and cng truck biz growing quickly with more ng fueling stations going in each week/month. plus ohio, pennsylvania, west virginia, colorado, new mexico have lots of it.).

i understand full well about picking winners, but a political debate is no debate when one side has no weapon to fight with (and raising the free market flag against wind/solar is too abstract for much of the voting population today.). milton friedman understood it too, and he could give you much more eloquent prose on picking winners.

oh, one other variable you mentioned that i think is unrealistic in this political season. the government is not out of the way in this age. that is something not to forget.

the exact milton friedman quote is, "just as you cannot beat a candidate in a political election without a candidate, so in economics you cannot beat a theory without a theory. the confidence in the two propositions derives not from experience but from the belief that they are obvious."

obama's got wind/solar, and romney needs to push ng for big trucks, then trucks and cars. romney's push would be going on already in the private markets, and is profitable with many companies participating. the ng parade is moving down the street, and romney just needs to step in front of the parade to lead it.
