Both cable companies in San Diego offer internet service for about $45 which competes very well with an extra phone line plus an ISP. The installation is $99 and of course you don't own the box. Damn sure glad I own that 14.4, 28.8, and 33.6 modem on my useless-parts shelf.

in my humble opinion, 3Com is quite attractive.

Anyway, their next earnings announcement will be on 12/19. I think the market is quite curious to learn what they will present and say. You may wish to have a look at COMS then.
