Daniel, Articles on the Sony HiFD indicate that the drive was "previewed" at COMDEX (I'm not certain as to exactly what that means). Sony has stated the technology will be available for licensing to drive and disk manufacturers. Sony and Fuji will make the media. Teac and Alps have "endorsed" the product and expected to be future manufacturing partners. Sony has stated that their primary target is PC manufacturers. Additional focus will be on other OEM's and industrial distributors. They also plan to sell to major distributors to address the upgrade market. To answer your vaporware question: I think its safe to say that at least a few select companies have evaluation samples. With product planned to be made availble to the general public by the Spring, and Sony's primary target being box makers, I would guess that its safe to say that at least a few select companies currently have evaluation samples. BTW, Sony and Fuji have both indicated that they see the HiFD as the next internal standard. They do not intend to be just another alternative. Although pricing has not yet been released by Sony, one statement that caught my eye was that the HiFD would be competitive with existing floppy drives for the volume consumer market. I can't possibly imagine how this could be true and it will be interesting to see if they can hold to this claim. Regards - Dale

He merely decribes the specifications.>> When I read the Comdex recap, the link was posted here a while ago, the person reporting stated that he saw the drive, however, with not much fan fare. He said that it appeared the guy's had just setup shop and didn't have time to converse. Not to mention that they didn't speak English. According to the person (use the name Harey Cary) the drive looked impressive and at the time was playing multimedia or some kind of video program. Zead
