I don't disagree with you Wharf - or do prefer to be called rat? And that is one reason I think Krugman is so screwy in his thinking. Even if Krugman got everything he wanted - the result - IMHO - would be that oil prices would shoot up so fast as to make gas almost unaffordable to the working man. If there is the oil shortage that you claim (and I defer to you on such knowledge) and if Krugman shocks the economy by accelerating at a much faster clip through stimulus - or deficit spending - then the result has to be that oil prices shoot to the moon.

I disagree slightly - not with your solution - but with the reasons to give it a go. Borrow at zero and put people to work to lower energy consumption, but that doesn't get the individual deleveraged........ much. But it does put people to work and borrowing at zero for something that makes America stronger is not such a bad thing.
