Those days are gone. There are still some big employers paying good medical insurance - but fewer all the time. It's my understanding increasingly the individual is more responsible for his health care.

But your point is not missed and is spot on! The thing is we have to pay for all of Joe's stuff. It's a long list of freebies or benefits that Joe gets. No problem as long as we can pay - we no longer can nor do. So we charge all of Joe's largess to our kids and blame each other - republicans won't pay their share, democrats won't look at ways to save annnnnnnnnnnnnd the debt marches upward. Not debt to get us something - but debt to pay our day to day expense.
