What is our goal? Our only goal is that our society is healthy and safe. When we get into ideas of how to do this, we naturally gravitate and react to what we see today. But Krugman sees the big picture better than we do. The worlds intellectuals have studied his ideas and have told us so. But lets also change some variables. Let's say we put 5 trillion into green energy. So now the US is not spending hundreds of billion importing oil but instead paying in this coutnry creating both jobs and consumer demand to people in this country building, installing and repairing the new energy systems. We are the bread basket of the world and can grow more food the world needs. Now I think Krugman has still just crunched the numbers based on conventional realities as they exist. But one can see how much more is possible. And we basically owe the money to ourselves, so we can set the terms of repayment. But tax revenues will rise big time and especially when the bush tax cuts are let to expire.
