I always pay attention to what Grommit posts. Don't always buy in, and sometimes have no cash.
Did not buy STAG common or preferred.

You can't win them all, and sometimes a win seems like a loss when you see what you left on the table.

A search of SI for messages containing HCIIP brings up four, all mine.

Bought for my sister at $9.60 on 12/5/11.
Sold with an 87% gain on August 1st.
Now $24.

Don't know if I will ever find another like it, but I look a little closer at convertible preferreds now.

Ship Finance International Limited (NYSE: SFL) - Sold a few Nov $15 Puts @ $1.25/contract
Excel Trust, Inc. (NYSE: EXL) - Started position in Taxable account. REIT that yields over 5%
NuStar GP Holdings, LLC (NSH) -NYSE - Started a position w/ 8.7% distribution but really a play on NuStar Energy L.P. (NS) -NYSE.

To complement my SFL holdings, I had previously sold some Nov $17.5 Calls for $1.25/contract and today was able to selling equivalent number of Nov $15 Puts @ $1.25/share. My eventual goal is to have the shares Put to me in Nov as I believe their 10% dividend is sustainable. SFL just issued 8Mln shares at $16.45/share. They plan to use the proceeds for a possible Drill Ship. The company may be challenged in the short run w/ interests in FRO and possible lower demand for bulk ships from China. Long term if they do move more into the large drilling platforms, they should do well.

After buying EXL for the IRAs (Roth & self directed IRA), I started to fund the taxable account w/ EXL. This is a So. CA mall owner that is getting good rents w/ high demand for their properties. Insiders own quite a few shares too. Dividend now yields 5% and was raised last quarter. The real estate in So. CA has recovered quite well, lots of jobs and they all drive fancy cars on the crowded freeways. As a result, they should/will shop at these malls and I also expect the values in the real estate to go higher and/or continue to build fancier malls.

NuStar GP Holdings, LLC (NSH) -NYSE owns a large chunck of NuStar Energy L.P. (NS) -NYSE and my buy today in NSH is a play on NS. The distribution in NSH s/d be covered by their NS dividends as well as the proceeds they receive from the NG gathering subsidiary. The value in NSH tends to track the share price of NS. This is in the taxable account w/ a short term target of $30.00/share. It's a speculative and leverage play so it comes w/ a bit higher risk too.

Most of my new buys are focused on domestic "local" companies so other world events should not impact their growth.
