HEX: Took some time to get confirmations on your comments regarding cost of NN contracts.
[1] NN does seem to charge a premium, particularly because they had no competition and most of ITpeople don't understand ATM fully, so they prefer to go with brand name. NN 's game was to make most out of it captive audience.
[2] NN understands (and is probably arrogant about) that after all ATM is the future of the network backbone both at corporate and telco level. So where is the captive audience to go? (that's why ASND got NTT - S. Asians don't like to pay big, who does?)
[3] Many corporate IT depts are delaying move to ATM backbone due to its high cost and complexivity of administration. (Created enough time window for other companies to offer product lines). They used gigabit switching as interim before finally getting ATM during 98-00.
>>Bernstein comments about growth via market-share gainsl.<<
READ: Market share gains for ATM of the overall networking backbone market (such as over gigabit switching, CSCO tag routing).
hope this helps.

please continue to add technical perspective to this thread.
