Gore was pretty incompetent. Nader cost him the election, but at the same time, Nader had a point--the election shouldn't have been so close that Florida could be tilted. Just as, looking at things superficially (ignoring the mess that Obama inherited), the nominated Republican ought to be running away with this election, given the weak economy. But, contrary to what the RW frequently says about their "bench," they had very weak candidates because their base is just too crazed. No reasonable person could have won the nomination. Romney has had to twist himself into an ugly pretzel.
