Very close. Her dorm was at 9th and 3rd Ave. A couple of blocks away is Washington Square. A few blocks south is the WTC. Everything below 14th Street was closed for days and NYU was closed. When she and her friends went north, they had to show school ID to return. She had a lot of strange illnesses the rest of the school year. She transferred to UNC the following year in order to go to a school "like her."
