Sam, the best post I've seen yet from you! Spot on, well written and easy to understand.

<<<<I submit that until everyone's balance sheets are repaired, "stimulus" money won't be very effective. Nor will any President, whoever he/she may be, be able to meaningfully increase employment. The boom created the mirage of wealth creation.>>>>>

<<<We would have been far better off today if it had not occurred, if we had just gone along a more normal economic trendline.>>>

I disagree. If it were not for the stimulus we would be in recession or worse. All Dem Governors in blue state refrained from firing teachers, firefighters, policemen and other public sector employees. Rep Governor's in red states went on an austerity (Austrian School) binge - fired as many public sector employees as possibles. These states are all in sad fiscal state. Not only that but they caused higher national unemployment rate.

It is business 101. To get out of debt, you have to borrow money and invest it intelligently. That is the ony way to grow the economy, create more jobs, and stimulate spending. Our economy is based on 70% consumer spending. You can lower taxes for a great majority of people. Raising taxes on the super wealthy and not giving themilitary more money than they can spend can also help to reduce the deficit.
