I also thought there were some misstatements in the article like you mentioned.

The other problem is that I doubt a country like India would want to start a 3rd standard when GSM and CDMA have so much penetration and momentum now.

A few points

1) The conversion rate as of yesterday(12/1/97) was
1$ = 39.5 Rupees
2) In India in most cities WLL is the best option as cabling is an expesive and error prone situation

3) The conversion of costs from $/subscriber to Rs/subscriber cannot be done strictly based on the conversion rate as there are additional taxes/duties imposed by the govt of India.

4) Wasn't DECT the standard in Europe until recently

5) About the data transfer rate in CDMA what is it currently? If the Koreans are increasing it, is it independent of QCOM.
