I wonder why Apple is limiting the choice of back? The Slate back would work with the White front.

More sku's = lower profit dollars. If it was either/or that doubles the sku's from 6 to 12 for Apple and the channels. Much harder to keep the inventory turns high, and keep the out of stocks low.

I agree, I am only considering the black version of the iPhone 5, because of the gorgeous slate back. The white iPhone 5 with the silver sides looks too much like the iPhone 4/4S.
