I know well that goals are achieved with a realistic approach instead of a die hard ideological approach. People associate that phrase "diehard ideo...." with right wing extremists. I would tend to classify all those folks in your post similar to those approach even though I would never even label them as right wing extremists.

Those three quotes all came from people on the left side of the political spectrum. I identified William O. Douglas as the Antonin Scalia of the 1960s because he was the Supreme Court justice closest to one end of the spectrum at that time, not because he was "right wing", as you suggest. And I did it because you seem to be typical of a lot of Democrats who come to their conclusions based on personalities and party identity rather than principles.
