Don't misunderestimate women. < one wonders if with our "new normal" situation, with half of the children being born out of wedlock - often to unattached single women - this process of selection still continues.> They don't need a church or a government [the sources of marriage certificates] to conduct their eugenics programme. If anything, with their cash flow separated from the bloke, they are more free to make whatever choice they like. Not that they make particularly good choices each time, but overall, they are quite brutal in their selection processes as hordes of young men learn to their dismay, with broken hearts and lovelorn sadness.

One of the reasons women vote far more than men for socialism and Big Brother/Sister is that it gives them more power. With governments providing free cash for mothers without husbands, the mother doesn't have to put up with some useless man's wayward ways. They can choose the bloke they want much more freely.

In China, the government has inadvertently turbo-charged the process by way of the one child policy over the last few decades. There is now a dearth of women and they are brutal in their selection process when choosing a very lucky guy from the swarms on offer. The low quality males are going to be wiped from the gene pool and since there are 20% or so extra males, that's a very rapid Flynn Effect being achieved.

I guess you know that one of the primary attributes women around the world select for is intelligence, with humour and kindness not far behind.

When men had a more important role in the selection process, they did it by murdering the males from neighbouring tribes, so the violent, powerful, brutal, clever and cunning males were left for the women of both tribes to choose from. Since violent, brutal, murderous are not attributes sought by women [normally] it seems that those characteristics are being rapidly removed from the gene pool. The Darwin Awards record the self-selection process which is underway around the world too.

With 3 billion women conducting a viciously relentless and harshly merciless eugenics programme, the process of selecting the good genes has been vastly accelerated compared with the bad old days of a couple of centuries ago when the selection process was very slow due to there being only a few hundred million women at it. Due to longevity, women now can even choose old blokes with bonus good genes, who only 100 years ago would have died in their 30s or 40s. Very few in the 19th century made it to their 60s and older.

.<..I think what started the accelerating development of science and technology was the habit of writing things down. > That's a bit of cart before the horse, though it was an iterative process. First came the brain function which enabled the person to have something to write down. Then they wrote. Then others could read that. They also wrote [the ones who could understand the first lot]. As you wrote, it became an accelerating development with feedback loops galore. There is no end in sight. It's hard to imagine even a theoretical limit. It's not like Shannon's law which shows limits.

The people who say the world has limited resources seem to not understand that that unlimited resource is the most valuable resource. The sky is not even the limit, with Globalstar now starting service again. There are satellites out to geostationary and now even a node on the surface of Mars with other nodes around the solar system.
