Check history around August 1947.....when the Brits did a crappy job of creating 2 countries : 1 was India, the other was "West Pakistan" + "East Pakistan" (collectively known as Pakistan).
It was 1971 when "East Pakistan" became Bangladesh.

If u wish to go further back in history, like 3-400 years, there was a Moghul Empire, and there were wars between kingdoms that did not wish to be part of that Empire.... later replaced by British Empire - a good saying at that time ( as related to me by my dad) was "The Sun never sets on the British Empire".
