Ride Teams With Alternative Footwear Designer John Fluevog to Produce Limited Edition Series of Snowboard Boots

PR Newswire, Monday, December 08, 1997 at 21:15

Imaginative Footwear Designer to Add Funky Styling to Ride Boots

PRESTON, Wash., Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- F-shoes, Provogs and Angels
-- shoes famous for using organic material that is environmentally friendly.
These are just some of the celebrated styles of John Fluevog, an international
designer known for his alternative, funky footwear which is worn by the likes
of Lisa Marie Presley, Madonna, Paula Abdul and Robin Williams. It was
Fluevog's passion for these over-the-top designs that attracted Ride's
snowboard boot designers; so much so that today Ride is announcing that it
will partner with Fluevog to offer a limited edition of snowboard boots for
the Fall '98 Season.

The Fluevog collection, which will debut at The Snow Industries Snow Show
in Park City, Utah in January '98, will include 2 models of boots, priced
between $215.00 and $219.00 retail. Both men's and women's styles will be
available.
"This is a unique opportunity for me," said Fluevog, who makes his home in
Vancouver, British Columbia. "Snowboarding is a free-spirited sport, much
like my designs. It makes sense to combine the two. This partnership will
definitely turn heads."

Fluevog has over two decades of experience in the footwear industry. The
self-taught Fluevog received no formal training in either business or design.
Instead, he started in shoe retail with former partner Peter Fox.
This partnership lasted for 10 years until Fluevog went out on his own and
he began to design his own line. Today, Fluevog has six retail stores
including locations in Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Toronto and
Vancouver. His shoes are also available in Europe and the Pacific Rim.
Fluevog applies his unique approach to each one of his retail operations.
Every store has its own distinctive merchandising, decor and displays. In
addition, Fluevog is known for his eclectic Internet web site and his quirky
mail order catalogue, which according to The Boston Chronicle, "reads like a
guided tour through his imagination."
"One of Fluevog's great talents is his ability to understand and
anticipate trends," said Jay Wailer, Ride's boot product manager. "Not only
does he have an uncanny knack of knowing what will appeal to his consumers, he
understands our consumers. Combining Ride's state-of-the-art technology with
Fluevog's off-beat designs will provide consumers with an appealing
alternative choice of style."

In addition to the Fluevog Limited Edition, for Fall '98, Ride will
introduce a new Device Compatible Step-In, and an enhanced conventional boot
line. The Step-In line will offer a multitude of improvements utilizing
Device technology. Special features include a new outsole design housing
Ride's proprietary Atmospheric Chamber, a new Fast Lace ISO loop lace system,
external ankle straps, forward lean flex inhibitors, pre-curved tongues, and
an improved toe cleat. Ride's expanded conventional boot line will include
several new models, including the Jenni Warra and Jeff Brushie pro models.

Established in 1992, Ride is headquartered at the foothills of the Cascade
Mountains, in Preston, Washington. Ride is a leading manufacturer of
contemporary sports equipment including snowboard equipment, wakeboards, and
apparel under the brand names: Ride, Liquid, 5150, Preston, Device, Smiley

snowboarding to the next level through performance driven engineered products.
Its technology is supported by a network of core riding individuals who strive

I just wanted to be the first to thank RIDE publicly for the opportunity to participate in winning the 'Equity Olympics'. A close cousin to the Winter Olympics where everyone tries beat their competitor to the bottom of a very steep slope without crashing.

The stock closed at an all time low of 2 today.
.... About where it all began 4 1/2 years ago.

Anyone else still hanging on by their fingernails?

Looks like Ride intends to be around next winter,
I've got to get me some of those new funky boots.
