A friend advised me WIndows 8 is mainly an update designed for those with Touchscreen technology, and, if I didn't have Touchscreen, then I shouldn't bother. Does this make sense? I ask because I am about to build a computer and wonder what operating system to install.

It's a good price, but people running XP and not getting Windows 8 Pro will get a rude awakening when they find that some of their programs will not run under Windows 8. So the money you save will be eaten up upgrading to new software. Thats what happened to me with Windows 7. My notebooks came with Home Premium. A pile of programs were not compatible with Windows 7.

Some of these programs are obsolete but still do the trick.
