Well, John, I guess doom and gloom was a fad with you then. For me, I simply call out the facts as I see them. When things are good, I call them out. When things are bad I call them out. If the messages have been all doom and gloom for so many years, it's because that's how many years things have been bad.

I'm a realist. I don't hide my head in the sand with false optimism. The world simply is the way it is. THe most I can do is educate myself as to the policies of the current folks in power, project outcomes into the future, and then invest accordingly. I see nothing but a continually deteriorating economy and debasement of currency as long as Bernanke and Obama are in power. That's not politics. It is simply an educated guess based on their policies. I am invested accordingly.

The problem with false optimism is that it can cost you money. I don't think you are in danger there, as your investment proposal of investing in real estate to rent, seems like a sure money maker to me over the long run. But if you are in the stock, bond and commodity markets with your retirement funds, like I am, then I'd be much less sanguine about future prospects.

At the end of the day, money printing and deficit spending does not create wealth sustainably. I know we want to believe it does, but it does not. It is just lipstick on a pig.
