Re: "I meant what to do with the rest of my life."

I
1. Go back to school.

2. Start a new career.

I'm too busy working now to think about retirement. :)

1. I have a phd
2. I enjoy the work I presently do. I work for a corporation but they let me do whatever I want. When people at work ask me who I report to I usually say "I am an independent contractor"
3. (Pete) I also do volunteer work

In my 27 years of working I have not thought about retirement once but I find myself at an inflection point. I am at financial critical mass and have been for many years and the larger question is what do I do with the money, quoting from the movie Arbitrage-"do you want to be the richest person in the cemetery?" (no), and what direction should I go with in my life. My point from an earlier post is much is written about attaining financial independence but little is written about what do to once it is attained probably because so few get there(?)

Many, many, many years ago Bob once had a woman call into the show and basically say "I am at critical mass what shall I do?" and his reply, interestingly was "...every Thursday if there is something you want for $800 or less buy it for yourself." (Me: I literally have no wants.)

In the back of my mind, I may officially retire in 3.5 years at a relatively young age, depart from the airport with my wife, laptop, passport, and credit card and spend the rest of my life wandering around the parts of the world I have not seen and call it a day.
