Rosemary,
Re -- I doubt seriously it will bring the demise of Dell over not having it, nor will it bring the demise of CPQ for having a sub-zero.

No, but the moment it becomes obvious that one has the advantage over the other (percieved or real) expect the stock prices to adjust accordingly.

Currently CPQ is using its retail pricing to drive down its costs, and to leverage higher margins on its higher priced pc's. If Dell does not work on getting its costs, correspondingly down, DELL will be at a distinct disadvantage.

rosemary, people who buy cpq's usually stay..
there are plenty of articles on that.
but, the point is unless dell has a 800 p266 or 300 home unit in 18 months.
then they will buy someone other than dell.
I've bot home units longer than anyone on this thread and I'm never paying 1500- 2000 for a home pc again.
I'll pay for the HDTV web pc home entertainment ctr..
but not for the home unit.
