The best way for ASND to fight a hostile take over is to increase shareholder's value and give sharesholders more to hope for. Otherwise, most shareholders would be happy with a take over price above $40 no matter it's a hostile or friendly take over. I certainly would vote for this kind of take over in current situation.

Gary,

1. You wrote:
I don't like close-in calls. If nothing happens, it was wasted
money (and everything I've posted is pure conjecture, the "novel"

to base them on fundamentals, so look for June or even Jan 99
options to let the fundamentals develop (or better yet, sell puts
for those timeframes or just buy the stock).

I figured you'd say something like that. =-} Yeah, you're right,
it's easy to waste $ with options. However, think about the upside
to downside ratio here. Consider the case where you invest $500 in
10 of the Jan 35 calls. Downside is clearly only $500(+ commissions).
If the moons align, and CPQ pulls the trigger at the $48 figure,
you're $13 in the $. That's an upside/downside of $13 / ($1/2)
or 26! Pump in $500 and get $13,000 out! What a deal.

Yeah, yeah, I know, it's still speculation. But those are some
pretty decent odds, if you're willing to throw away $500.

2. W.R.T. CPQ's other acquisition targets, I seem to recall that
they really wanted Gateway 2000 before buying Tandem. Time will
tell. Investigating CPQ's strategic statements and trying to
determine their acquisition targets could shed some light on the
validity of your ASND takeover theory.

Good luck,

-John Dodson

(and everything I've posted is pure conjecture, the "novel" as Blankmind politely calls it) - gary korn

any one new to gary's logic on a possible asnd buyout, should click on gary's name and go back to the beginning of his "novel", as i have dubbed it. keep in mind gary has developed and added/modified as he has gone along, and to read only the recent posts does not allow for one to understand the reasoning.

my suggesting to gary he could write a business mystery novel over his data and theory, is not one of "politeness", but respect for such a well developed theory supported with facts and extrapolations from these facts.

now if i call you a contortionist thinker....
