I might have to take a rain check on Florida <I' ll give you the summers in Florida are pretty brutal but it's hard to beat in January and February which is what Maurice was talking about. Arizona gets very hot in summer all be it a "dry" heat but 120 plus desert heat is too hot for me dry or not. > Our winter is June July August so that's when I want heat and sunshine with long days.

I have experienced Phoenix in a tent in August and it was one of the hottest times of my life.

I had better check climate graphs. San Diego is good any time of year for me though winter is a bit on the cold side. I might have to stick with the south of France which has delectables I love. Figs found on trees, nectarines the best I have come across. Apricots same. Cherries galore. Cheese by the ton. Wine by the barrel. Baguettes which nobody else seems able to cook and most of the boulangers are no good either. Olive oil, tomatoes, tapenade ... OMG I can't wait for summer again. Heat every day.

Earlier this year within view of Phoenix I went for a great hike just outside the city seeing maybe only half a dozen other hikers and within 15 minutes of leaving was back in Mesa. For a Canadian there are direct flights to Phoenix and Vegas from every major Canadian city.

Just a rough silly comparison ---
Six beer at an off sale in Saskatchewan cost $16.75 in Mesa Six beer at a drugstore cost $6.

Az is the beneficiary of a huge influx of Bakken money as recently made millionaires take 2nd and 3rd homes.

The AZ housing market is coming off the floor very nicely, one brother added a 2nd home at the bottom and in a year has made a very nice paper return.

Oil money from ND is creating a steady stream of Free to chose seasonal residence. If you've never spent a winter in ND this new found freedom, is the answer to many prayers.
