I would image that as Java proliferates that Solaris starts looking like a superior option. Sun will be able to offer a platform which is every bit as easy to use as NT and lacking nothing in terms of available software. The armies of software developers creating everything imaginable for Java platforms will remove the only real road-block facing Solaris right now. Every other part of their business should improve markedly, as well. NT can't be allowed to take over the small network space because if they do it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that they will have bought enough time to patch together a scalability solution. The thing to remember is that software development budgets are just meaningless numbers as far as Gates is concerned.
