Jack, accdg to my brief scan of things, Taiwan is down because the opposition party surprisingly won some local elections over there. Here is the interesting part: the opposition's major difference in ideology is that they are more pro-independence than the ruling party. And this is perceived as bad for the markets? IMHO, it's just a short term shock, and long-term it's reassuring to know that Taiwan won't be plundered by the mainland. There was also some mention of the ruling party (which I guess becomes the opposition party now??) being very pro-stock-market (whatta surprise!), which could also explain some of that 5% shock at their defeat. FWIW, I am long Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM).

Hi Jack,

Now if I said that, someone would come along and say "Maybe all of the above?" But why quibble?

Regards,
