To All:

I thought this was worth one more posting to start our day with:

From today's Barron's on Dell:

"As Deere did for farm-equipment stocks, DELL Computer pulled
several large tech shares up off the canvas after a bruising
Monday selloff with a Wall Street-pleasing earnings report. The
personal-computer maker Tuesday unveiled third-quarter earnings
that had risen 81% to 69 cents a share, a penny above consensus
expectations. Server and Workstation sales shone and Dell
sprinkled in some magic words for Wall Street: market-share
gains, declining component costs and expectations of continued
strength in 1998.

Investors are increasingly viewing the PC market as dominated by
the very large, elite players. So after closing Monday at 79 3/4,
Dell finished the week up 4 7/16".

Nice words from Barron's, wonders never cease. They really
must have liked that report and the future outlook.

Hi Rosemary:
How are things with you.?? The analysts discussions
of computer business is getting disgustingly repetitious, keep
saying the same thing over and over again. In reading this
report fron almost a year ago,I find that HWP already had a sub xero
machine.
And all that price cutting going on was bound to ruin the margins for the whole industry. It must have been a misprint in Dells report
that showed Dells margins increasing. And growth rate has fallen to
what 81% ????
Am hoping it was nothing I accidently said that caused you to invest in this decadent company. With 20 mil shares shorted, the bears may have something.

Rosemary re: Dell needs to get into this market or bust, routine?

That's a tough one. In the beginning when the sub 1ks were introduced, I thought DELL should address the market, at the consumer level, I thought it would be great way to get in that market. Why let everyone else get the brass ring? I am not sure anymore. When one considers the support those buyers will need, the skimpy margins, maybe taking the high road is correct for DELL. The problem I see, (I said the following back a view months), is if those sub 1k computers begin to show up at the corporate level, then DELL will need to address it.

Greg---> I need an answer for the following ??? Do the sub 1k computers have flash for BIOS updates? Could be the dirty little secret I am looking for.
