If I wanted it to take me to LA I would hope for a sleeper car version with a fully stocked refrigerator. ;)

RE: cars spinning in circles... then shutting down<gg>

Today I took our Infiniti in for some warranty work. They finished the work, but the guy who washed the car put the key on the counter and another customer picked it up by mistake and took it to Idaho. The poor service guy was beside himself. I thought I had a spare in a magnetic keybox but I couldn't find it. He finally got a key blank for another model and had it cut for my car using a code tied to the VIN.

I watched the guy trying the key out. It worked, but he said we would have to reprogram all our keys because the new key was the only one that would work now until we reprogrammed them. If I tried to start it three times with our own keys it would lock up and we'd be screwed. This is a ten year-old car--no twelve. The key looks like a normal key, but apparently there is a chip inside it that controls the system. I had no idea it was a smart key. The fob thingee is even smarter because it locks and unlocks the doors and the trunk.

Whatever happened to hot-wiring? I miss the good old days.
