Well, I think the box is necessary now in the new scheme of url's, since responses are no longer linked to the thread, but to some overall response number. You can change the number in the box the same way you used to be able to do it on the command line, by wiping out the reply number and typing in the new one and hitting enter. So this isn't really a new feature, so much as preserving what you used to be able to do.

Jeff, in response to your inquiry about my interest in ASND, I left my position in ASND along with a few dollars back in the 30's. I'm a watcher, with a possible interest in getting back on, though the urge isn't very strong right now.
