I think he is probably talking about MapQuest, Waze, etc. that folks might be prompted to download if they weren't happy with the Apple Map.
Yes. Rereading his post I see that I misinterpreted it. He makes a good point. Why aren't the alternative mapping applications making the top ten in terms of downloads? Is everybody just using Google Maps via Safari? Or are they using Apple's horrible Maps app, which many people have commented is just fine for them?
