This is exactly right.

Never once did I do a return for a wealthy individual who would have tolerated any kind of illegal or even borderline positions. Ever.

These people want to play precisely by the rules -- which means paying the minimum amount of tax they're required to under the law.

Someone at his income level should expect frequent audits. If he'd been doing any "scamming", he'd have been in court with the IRS.
